• #40 Making the Bed

Lately I have been feeling sluggish and lazy even though I have been grinding to get all of my work done. I feel like I am doing enough to get by, but I’m not the best version of myself. I thought an easy habit that would make me have a greater sense of accomplishment in the day would be making my bed right when I wake up. I am not super unorganised, but my room could use a little work. I usually make it extremely clean and then it gets insanely messy and I have to dedicate so much time to fix it rather than just cleaning up as I go. Making my bed each morning has helped me get started in a more positive mood because even if the rest of the day sucks at least I did the one little thing I told myself I wanted to stay accountable for. It has also been nice unmaking it at night because it’s a clear indicator that the day is over and I feel more clean. It never really made sense to me when I was younger and my mom would make me do this if I was just going to undo it later because I thought it was a waste of time. However, now I see that it is about setting intentions. Cleaning also serves as a stress reliever for me and having a clean room gives me one less thing to worry about getting done. When it looks nice, it makes me feel more at home.

  • #39 Polls

My best friend Elizabeth is always entertaining us. Her new hobby is posting random polls about literally everything on her instagram story. These polls are not only hilarious because of the questions they are asking, but also because the statistics they show are often shocking. One that really threw me for a loop was how many people believe in love at first sight. I can’t tell if I believe in it because I have definitely met people and had lust at first sight, but usually those relationships burn out pretty fast. When I do say that I believe in it, I always get called out for being delusional. The polls remind me how creative Elizabeth is because she post about 30 of them a day. If I tried to do this I would run out of ideas so fast. I feel like this has to be connected to the way Elizabeth finds a was to connect with every single person she meets and then befriends them. She has so many thoughts in her head all the time that it makes me feel like mine is blank. I also think that Elizabeth’s new hobby reflects the way she is able to bring people together in real life because she can help find common interest for us to talk about even if we are different. I have never been with her in a social situation and had the conversation go dry. She keeps it interesting!

  • #38 Yay or Nay

I got this Celsius today and it was one of the most delicious drinks I have ever had. I told all my friends they had to try it and they thought that it was gross because the flavor was orange and marshmallow. I think I liked it so much because when I was a kid I was addicted to orange creamsicles so it tasted nostalgic. I also love marshmallows and I feel like a lot of people hate things like peeps. Anyways, the unique flavor made me think about all of the April fools pranks that food companies were pulling on social media. I think putting ideas out there on a day where they were acceptable as a joke was a good way to test potential product ideas because you could see how people react to it. There is an ice cream that is mac and cheese flavored which seems bizarre, but I have heard people enjoy it so you can’t knock it till you try it! I may be biased when it comes to this topic because I have never had one food that I did not like in my entire life. This says a lot because I am willing to try everything. I get frustrated when people won’t try something once because it’s literally one time and you can spit it out and never have it again if you don’t like it.

  • #37 Calming Down

Sometimes I get so anxious and need something to physically do with my hands so that I can stop freaking out. A lot of the time I won’t even have anything bothering me to put me in this mood and I just feel like I need to run around. Usually working out helps, but when it’s night time I don’t want to run outside and get kidnapped and I don’t want to see people at the gym. The latest activity that helped me get out of this mood was learning to sew. I wasn’t really sewing, I was watching my friend sew and I was running stitches threw a sock. This seems like a waste of time, but it allowed me to zone out and just be in the presence of someone else. When you get in your head and start thinking about how you are anxious, it can make you anxious about being anxious. If someone else is struggling with this I would tell them to do literally anything so you can make your brain think about something else rather than how it doesn’t like the current state it is in. It’s easy to feel like you are parked and cannot move, but you have to make yourself get up and do something to get out of your head. It could be helpful to adopt a little hobby like knitting or jewellery making so that it is always there if you need it.

  • #36 Uber Convos

One thing about me is I’m going to talk to the Uber driver. I have had this one Uber so many times and she has about 15 of these figurines glued to the seats and doors of her car. I respect this because I know that a lot of people in Dallas are probably so judgmental and she’s just being herself. She also has extremely loud speakers and loves to play her own music which is always fitting for when we are having a night out and want to have fun. She always wants to play with us, but most of the time drivers are more chill and I have real conversations with them. I love to hear about their life and what lead them to start Uber because most of the time it is a side job and they are trying to make money for something else that they are really passionate about. I had one driver recently who told me his dream has always been to moving to Hawaii and he thought that he was going to be able to make it happen soon. This made me so happy because I could feel the joy radiating from him because he wanted to talk about it. My friends always get mad, but I swear Uber drivers are great people to ask for advice because they are brutally honest knowing that they are probably not going to see you again.

  • #35 Wisdom

This picture of my Granny cracks me up because her outfit is just a lot, but she owns it. I love how she wears whatever she wants and does not care what anyone thinks. I feel like it’s a common misconception that older generations, like our grandparents, are not as creative as young people. I guess this makes sense when it comes to certain topics, but whenever I am having a life crisis and need good advice I go to my Granny and she puts things into perspective in such interesting ways that I never thought of. She makes me realize that sometimes the best ideas are right in front of us and we are so stressed about doing something “creative” or “new” that we overlook them. I think that she is so wise, not only because of her age, but because of her outlook on life. She lives with a purpose and has dedicated so much time towards bettering the life of others. The way she takes time getting to know people that are different than her reflects in the way she is able to connect with so many people and develop a better understanding of them. She has so many unique perspectives that a lot of people her age are not as familiar with and I love when she speaks her mind freely and surprises everyone around her.

  • #34 Twins!

I do not know how I have not talked about two of my best friends on here because they make me think about all types of things regarding getting creative. The unique thing about them is that they are twins but could not be more different people. I grew up with them and they have always have contrasting personalities. The best part is I love them both equally and they are both hilarious in their own way. I feel like I would have to get creative if I got pregnant with twins because I would originally be planning for one baby and then absolutely shocked by the news of another. I cannot even image what happens when some people are told that they are having quadruplets because that calls for so many more resources and so much energy. I think about getting an ultrasound and the doctor being like OMG we have some news! I knew two pairs of triplets growing up and it always fascinated me. I feel like the best part about having a twin would be that you have a built in best friend for life. My friends fight a lot but they know they can never stay mad at each other. Siblings are close but twins connect on a different level.

  • #33 Judging a book by its cover

I saw this book in the SMU bookstore and it immediately caught my attention. I don’t know why I was in this section because I don’t need any of those books. However, I wish I did because this one is so much more beautiful than all of my science ones. One of my teachers in high school told me she had a student who always doodled on their notes and then ended up being the person who draws all the graphics in medical school books. I always tell this to my friend Regan because she is an amazing artist and I feel like that would be such a cool job or even side hustle if you did it on a smaller scale. I wish that I had a calling like that and knew what I wanted to do. Sometimes I feel like if you have a unique talent like that and want to make a living out of it you have to work harder because it can be more difficult to get into or make money. This made me think about who the person was that designed this book and how they got into that industry. I love the colors and the sharp lines. I am also intrigued by the writing on the front that talks about breaking rules because it makes me think that the person who wrote it is fun and thinks outside the box.

  • #32 Mommies Meeting

I took this picture of my mom meeting my two best friends’ moms. I feel like this should have happened way before senior year and I actually don’t know how it didn’t. It’s interesting to spend time with my friends’ moms and see all of their similarities. I always notice when people talk the same way or use the same phrases. It’s funny how a lot of the time people will look exactly like their parents or their siblings and then when you point it out they don’t agree at all. Growing up everyone said that I looked like my dad, but as I have gotten older more people say my mom. I feel like I have more of my dad’s facial features and my brother has more of my mom’s. However, me and my mom share more of the obvious traits like our hair and style. I always take it as a compliment when people say I am like a little version of my mom because I also see her as my best friend. When I look at her life and how she carries herself I truly hope that I can grow up to be like her. I love introducing her to my friends because she’s so fun and I feel like if she was my age we would hang out together. Another interesting thing is that all of our moms get along so well which I think is because my friends are also extremely similar to their moms.

  • #31 Ice Cream Ad

I thought the packaging on this ice cream was so sweet and cute. I am usually a hater for healthy ice creams because if I’m going to eat it I feel like I might as well have the real thing. However, this packaging made up for that a little bit. I also feel like it’s effective because I sent it to my friends and I know so many other people would have done the same which gets the image of the product out in the public more. It also made me want to share it with people and hang out because the message was so warm and cuddly. It’s weird because usually I just see stuff like this and acknowledge that I think it’s cool, but now I think about our class and all the effort that was actually put into making this message. I imagine a bunch of people sitting in a room sharing their ideas and then they hear one and they’re like “that’s it!” Even though this advertising is small and only made up of four words, I would be so proud if I came up with it and they put it on millions of ice creams distributed across the world. It may be a short message, but I think it has the power to bring people together and make them want to enjoy the product with each other rather than alone.
